Security for your pets in and around the home

Unfortunately pet theft is on the rise and often something that many owners do not consider when having a pet. The most common pet to be stolen is a dog and these are usually either stolen to sell on or to be used to breed or fight. This is a very sad situation and one that leaves many pet owners distraught. Although you cannot totally avoid this happening to you, there are some security measures you can put in place to try and avoid it. Firstly installing CCTV in your home and ideally near you pet can not only deter people from entering your home in the first place, but catch them in the act if they do. Secondly you may wish to put a collar on your dog that has a tracker installed in it. Often the more expensive dog breeds or pedigrees are the most sort after, so it may be worth investing a bit more when owning one of these breeds.
If you take your pet out, never leave it tied up on its own and try to avoid leaving it in the car. If you do, then make sure that the car is locked and that it is only left for a matter of minutes. If you are keeping your dog in a kennel outside, then again make sure that you have security. Install an adequate CCTV system and install locks and alarms on the doors to ensure no one can get in without your knowledge.
