If you use your vehicle for work then there is a good chance that you may transport goods, equipment and tools in it to and from places of work. Firstly you need to ensure that your vehicle is as secure as possible and this can be done in a number of ways. If your vehicle is a van then blacking out rear windows or installing board behind the windows can be the first way to prevent a breaking. Thieves do not want to waste time and risk breaking in to vehicles that do not contain items of much value so they will often target vehicles where they have seen valuable items inside. This also goes for loading and unloading a van, where you may not notice prying eyes that are watching what is going in to the vehicle. Always ensure your vehicle is locked, even if you are popping back inside the building to pick up an items knowing you will only be a few minutes. Ideally you should also invest in a high security door lock, especially for side loading and rea doors as they will take longer for someone to break through and may be enough to put them off altogether.

Having a recognised alarm and immobiliser can not only increase your security but can also lower your insurance for the vehicle. The manufacturer’s standard is not always good enough, especially on older vehicle.

Lastly ensure that you vehicle has the correct level of insurance to cover the contents as well otherwise you could find yourself with little or no money back to replace the lost items.
