Securing your home when away on holiday

If you are planning a trip away then the last thing you want to worry about is the security of your home whilst you are away. There are many things you can do to improve the security of your home, some as simple and easy others may be a little more complex and costly.

First and foremost you need to ensure that when you come to leave the home all windows and doors are double locked (if possible) and that keys are not left inside. If you usually hide a key somewhere outside, be sure to move this before you go away. It is always a good idea to give a key to a trusted family member or neighbour just in case there is an emergency and someone needs to enter the property.

Installing CCTV can not only deter burglars but can also catch criminals in the act. There are a huge number of CCTV systems on the market and they range in price from £30 upwards to a few thousand pounds for the most advanced. IF you do have CCTV try and make sure that it is backed up whilst you are away as there is no point in having it if the evidence can be destroyed easily.
