CCTV can be a great deterrent when installed in sight outside your property. Sometimes CCTV is enough on its own to help protect you from falling victim to house thefts and break-ins but for the times when it isn’t enough, the CCTV footage may prove vital.
When buying a CCTV system, it is important to look at the quality of the images it captures day and night. Some work great in the day but when it gets dark then need to have night mode that still captures high quality footage. There is a huge selection of CCTV systems, some are called IP cameras with SD card recording function or cloud storage and work directly off your WiFi and others are hardwired cameras that record on to an external box.
CCTV systems are usually set to rerecord over the footage after a certain amount of time or when the storage device becomes full but this may mean that you lose vital evidence if not checking your footage often or if you are away on holiday for example. Try and back up your recorded footage once a week on to another external device and keep that for a month or so before deleting it. This will free up space on your recording device but still allow you plenty of time to revisit old footage if needed.
