Can doorbell cameras replace CCTV?

A recent innovation that many householders are embracing is the doorbell camera, a simple way to add some security to a property. Doorbell cameras are simple to install and far cheaper than a CCTV system, but can they replace a bespoke security system?

The answer to this question is probably not but it does depend on the type of property you are in for example if you live in an apartment in a block of apartments and the front door is the only access to your property then a doorbell camera is a good choice however if you live in a house or bungalow with multiple access points although a doorbell camera would be useful a full CCTV security system would probably be a better choice.

The benefits of a doorbell camera can be seen particularly for the older generation who may live alone and want to be able to see who is at the door before they open it and even speak to them through the intercom system that is usually part of the whole doorbell system. Cameras can either record continually or record when movement is detected, and the footage can be viewed on a mobile phone or computer. This system gives the householder peace of mind and the security that they need in an inexpensive way.
