Backing up your CCTV footage

If you have CCTV installed in your home or business then you are already well on your way to improving your security. CCTV can act as a deterrent or if that isn’t enough, it may be able to catch the people in the act giving you something to pass on to the police or courts should you need to. There are so many different types of CCTV systems on the market that it can be hard to find out exactly which one will do the job. Lots of people simply do not have the money to spend hundreds on a CCTV system so are happy to purchase a cheaper IP camera for around £40. These can be easy to set up and give you good quality images.

It is important to think about what footage is recorded and how it will be saved. Sometimes the cheaper cameras record only to a memory card which means should the memory card fail, you lose all your recordings. You can often choose to back up the recordings using a cloud service.

If you have footage that may need to be used as evidence then it is important to make a few copies of it as soon as possible. Try and have a copy on your phone and maybe a laptop as well as in the cloud so it is easy to access it at a later date.
