So many of us are desperate to go on holiday after the horrendous 12 months we have all endured due to Covid. With flights resuming to certain countries this month, it is important that we think about our home security before jetting off.

It may be that you are booking your holiday last minute and have little time to plan before you go. It is still important to make time to sort out your security. It may be that you ask a neighbour or family relative if they wouldn’t mind popping in every day or every other day to check on the place. This is ok but burglars often watch a property for a number of days or weeks before targeting it, so they may know the routine of when someone comes and be able to plan the break in around it.

Smart devices can be really useful in these situations. Setting up lights, lamps and radios to come on and off throughout the day will make it appear that someone is home. Again try and vary your schedule slightly so it looks more realistic.

Installing CCTV can not only catch criminals in the act but can often be enough of a deterrent to put them off in the first place.
