Over the last few months there seems to have been a big increase in van break ins. Often people have vans because they need something that is larger enough for them to transport goods or equipment. These may be expensive tools, machinery, or large goods items such as TV’s and fridges. All these sorts of items are often attracting to thieves who know they can sell them on for a quick profit.
If you have a van then try to avoid leaving items inside overnight if possible. For some trades people though it is not practical to be able to unload all your tools into your home and back into your van at night. It is not only at night when vans are broken in to. There have been several reports of attempted break ins during the day when the van is parked at a place of work.
Always make sure that your van is securely locked, even if you are only leaving it for a few minutes. If the vehicle is not locked then you may find that your insurance is invalid and will not pay out should a break in occur. Van locks can be picked up for around £40 and make it harder for them to comprise the standard central locking system.
