If you have recently purchased or looking to purchase a CCTV system you need to think carefully about where you are going to position, not only the cameras but also the recording box (if it has one).

If you are just installing an IP camera that has a memory card inside it then you will need to position it in a place that covers the area you want to secure. Be sure to put the camera up as high as possible to avoid it being tampered with or damaged.

If you are installing a multi camera system, be sure to check the areas that each camera captures before permanently fixing them to a wall. You will want to try and ensure there are no dead spots, especially if there is a window or door in that area. If you have ordered a system that has a recording box with built in hard drive then this should be placed somewhere that is not easy to access. If you do get broken in to, that is the first thing they will take, removing any evidence you may have. People often place these boxes in an attic or inside a wardrobe where it cannot be found easily.
