Ways to protect your home when going on holiday

A holiday should be an enjoyable time for all the family. The last thing you want is to come home to find that your house has been broken in to whilst you are away. Although you cannot eliminate the chances of this happening entirely, there are things you can do to try and reduce the risks.

Installing a security monitoring system or CCTV will allow you to view live footage of your home whilst you are away. If you do see anything suspicious you can report it, but if nothing else, it can give you peace of mind.

If you usually have people coming round to the house such as gardeners or cleaners, then if possible still allow them to come. Burglars often watch homes for a period of time before they break in and if they notice that cars are gone and no one is going in and out of the property, you may become their prime target.

Try not to let your post build up. If you are going to be away for more than a week then you may want to get your neighbours to or a family member to pop in and move your post. Piles of unopened letters behind your door is a sign that your home has been empty for a while.
