Keeping your online data secure

Many of us use the internet for everyday tasks including banking and shopping. These online activities have increased in population over the last decade and are set to carry on increasing over time. We often find it a lot more convenient and less time consuming to do things online rather than having to go in to a store or bank but are we running the risk of our personal data being intercepted?

Often you will hear stories about companies that have had their servers compromised often leading to a leak in personal data that is stored on them. This can be anything from names and passwords to card details and addresses.

When using the internet to carry out secure activities you need to try and protect yourself from all of the above. Firstly you need to make sure that your password is secure and that no one else knows it. Choosing a password that is easy for someone to guess is a sure fire way of becoming a victim of online fraud. You should also never use the same passwords for all websites otherwise if your data does get stolen the hackers will be able to access other websites that you may have an account with.
